Color Boxes and the Color Green

I've been all over Pinterest finding activities to do with Grayson other than watching tv and playing with him in his room, doing the same things over and over again. I want to do different things with him. I want to teach him things at the same time we're having fun where Grayson doesn't even know he's learning anything because we're having so much fun. Last night I just couldn't go to sleep because of everything going through my mind where I just became so emotional. I got on Pinterest and discovered this AMAZING blog from this mom who not only made color boxes for each week, but whatever color she used for that week, she made sensory projects, meal times, bath time, so many things based on the color they were working with that week. So, today we went to the dollar tree and got some boxes and some knick knacks to go in these boxes. While Grayson was napping, I gathered colored toys he already had and the toys we bought today and made color boxes. I made a green, blue, yellow, red, orange and brown one. I ran out of boxes to do black, white, pink and purple but I'll get to those soon. Here's the blog of the mom who made it possible for me to even do this: http://www.playcreateexplore.org/p/color-of-week-series.html

In the green box, I put a dinosaur, 2 glow in the dark dinosaurs, a Reptar toy from the Rugrats, a block, some Mardi Gras beads, a light up four leaf clover, a St. Patrick's Day mini top hat, an airplane, an Easter egg, Pop Rocks candy, 2 of those big plastic coins that fit in his talking piggy bank, a crayon, a keychain, an ornament, 2 pairs of dress up glasses (Valentine's Day one and a St. Patrick's Day one), a plastic baby spoon, and a little tub of finger paint all according to the color green.

In the blue box, I put a mini composition notebook, a eyeglass cleaning cloth, an Easter egg, 2 spoons (1 plastic baby spoon and 1 metal spoon with blue "trim" on it), an unsharpened pencil, 2 little trucks, a pair of Easter bunny ears, a crazy straw, a Mickey Mouse tambourine, a block, a metal tin, Mardi Gras beads, 2 stickers, a plastic utensil holder that held his baby spoons, a plastic coin (same kind of coin as the green ones), a Sulley figurine from Monster's Inc., a lollipop, a little tub of finger paint, an ornament, and a crayon all according to the color blue.

In the yellow box, I put a toy container that you get from bubble gum machines, a crazy straw, a zipper bracelet, a pencil, a baby medicine syringe, an Easter egg, a plastic compass keychain, a cloth, 2 trucks, a ball, a Starburst, a plastic baby spoon, a crayon, a little tub of finger paint, a block, a bug, an Easter Mega Block with an Easter bunny inside, and a plastic coin (same kind of coin as the green ones) all according to the color yellow.

In the red box, I put a mini composition notebook, a mini top hat, bubbles, a crazy straw, a little tub of finger paint, a magnetic necklace, a metal spoon with red "trim" on it, a Cars telephone from the movie Cars, a Woody pen from Toy Story, 2 plastic coins (same kind of coins as the green ones), a block, 2 lady bugs, a lollipop, a little toy, a crayon, some fake rose petals, and 2 stickers.

In the orange box, I put a ball, a pumpkin, a crazy straw, bubbles, a marker, a straw tube that goes to one of his old sippy cups, a pencil, a plastic coin (same kind of coin as the green ones), a truck, an Easter egg, a mini top hat, a yucky Clemson keychain (lol), a little tub of finger paint, Mardi Gras beads, a dinosaur, and a Starburst.

And finally in the brown box, I put a sock monkey beanie baby keychain, a Scooby Doo toy, a Tootsie Roll, a dinosaur, 2 horses, a ball and a little tub of finger paint.

I still need to find some things for each box to fill them up but I'm seriously excited! Lol! I was going to wait until Monday to do the boxes but was too excited and we started the green box and a green day just for today to give it a test run and it went great! We opened and discovered the green box, we finger painted with the green finger paint and drew with the green marker. We made one pan chicken, potatoes and GREEN beans, made green Kool-Aid, got into our green pjs, and Grayson sat in his green beach chair. It was so much fun and of course Grayson LOVED making a mess with the finger paint. I'm smart and bought him some of those markers that will only write on special paper a few months ago so if he colored on the walls or the furniture, he couldn't lol. Smart momma over here! I don't mind a mess but we rent this house so I don't really want marker on my walls and I'm pretty sure TC's aunt and uncle (our landlords) don't either after they just painted the house before we moved in lol. Although if I ever do buy him regular markers of course they'll be washable markers, but these markers are good for his age right now.

Monday, we'll really start on the green and then each week focus on one color so he can learn the color and hopefully be able to say the color at the end of the week. Doing a different color box each day would confuse him at this age. He already some what knows what green and blue are but he's got to be really focused when you ask him to point to something green or blue. Until Monday, I'm going to find activities to do, foods to make, etc. that go with the color we're on each week. I seriously can't wait!
